Club Property Update and Statement Regarding Ordinary Resolutions 3 and 4

In light of the recent passing of Ordinary Resolutions 3 and 4 at the Annual General Meeting on Monday, November 25th, the Club has observed a notable campaign of misinformation regarding these matters. While much of this negativity originates from non-members, we acknowledge that a small group of members have also expressed concerns. To address these misunderstandings, we wish to provide clarity and reiterate key points made during the AGM.

Reclassification, Not Rezoning:

As stated on numerous occasions, including at the AGM, the reclassification of the land associated with the tennis courts and cricket nets is not a rezoning. This is an internal administrative amendment to the Club's land classification, enabling us to explore potential future opportunities. This does not indicate that the tennis courts or cricket nets will cease to exist in the short to mid-term.

The Club remains committed to transparency and understands the importance of diversifying income streams to safeguard its future. In line with industry changes, the Board is dedicated to reducing reliance on gaming revenue and ensuring the Club remains a sustainable and valuable community asset.

Commitment to a Family-Friendly Future:

We are acutely aware of the evolving demographics and desires of our local community. As outlined at the AGM, the Board has a strong vision for enhancing the Club’s facilities, including:

  • New alfresco dining spaces

  • An outdoor kids' play area

  • Live music infrastructure

  • Upgraded bowling facilities

  • Additional food and beverage options

These exciting new project concepts are already well and truly underway, and we look forward to sharing detailed plans with our members in the near future.

However, it is important to acknowledge that it is unlikely the Club can generate the required income from traditional revenue streams to fund these initiatives. Diversifying income sources is essential to ensure these improvements are realised and that the Club remains a vibrant, sustainable, and family-friendly community asset for years to come.

No Land Sale, Only Long-Term Leasing:

We want to make it unequivocally clear: there is no intention to sell any Club land whatsoever. The resolutions grant the Board the ability to explore long-term lease options, allowing the Club to retain full control of its assets while generating income to fund future projects and maintain financial stability.

Support for Local Sports:

The Club values its role as a sports hub and has a proud history of supporting grassroots sports. This is evidenced by the significant financial contributions—amounting to tens of thousands of dollars annually—that the Club provides to local sporting organisations.

While the tennis courts and cricket nets are currently available free or at a nominal rate, it is unrealistic to expect the Club to bear the maintenance costs indefinitely. However, we are firmly committed to ensuring the community continues to have access to high-quality facilities, even if the time comes when these facilities can no longer be accommodated on the Club's property.

To this end, high-level discussions with Council have already taken place to explore options for upgrading nearby tennis and cricket facilities. These upgraded facilities would be located in close proximity to the Club, ensuring the community retains access to modern, high-quality sporting amenities.

The Club has liaised extensively with key stakeholders from the tennis and cricket communities throughout this process.

No Scheduled Changes to Existing Facilities:

To reiterate: there are no scheduled removals, amendments, or changes to the tennis courts or cricket nets for the foreseeable future. The approval of these resolutions simply provides the Board with the ability to explore options to secure the Club’s long-term sustainability.

Addressing Misinformation:

The Club acknowledges that some concerns about Ordinary Resolutions 3 and 4 have arisen from a campaign of misinformation, much of which has been perpetuated online. While we welcome constructive feedback and engagement from our members and the community, we strongly caution against the continued spreading of false or misleading information.

We encourage open and respectful dialogue and urge individuals to seek clarification directly from the Club if they have questions or concerns. The Club remains committed to transparency and acting in the best interests of its members and the broader community.

Securing the Future of Our Community Asset:

The Club remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting sports and the community. However, continued funding and support for grassroots sports clubs depend on the Club's profitability and financial viability. By investigating opportunities for diversification, we are working to ensure the Club remains a cornerstone of the local community for generations to come.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate these important decisions for the benefit of the entire community.
